Legends Announced

There are five meetings taking place this week with a jumps card from Bangor and flat action from Yarmouth, Musselburgh, Salisbury and Newbury.  There are no runners from Pond House today.  The pick of the action would appear to come from Newbury today, with the 1m (0-100) handicap the highlight of their card.  Troll Peninsula looks to be an improving youngster who could be on a lenient mark but the market has a very one-sided look to it so there has to be value elsewhere.  Chance won well at Newmarket last October and provided he is straight enough after an absence of 208 days, he could go well in the hands of James Doyle with conditions to suit.

I see that the Leger Legends races is set to draw an exciting field this year.  In it's early days, the race was one of the highlights of the entire meeting, pitting, as the name would suggest, some of the biggest names from the weighing room.  Whilst it hasn't been quite the draw of late, that could be about to change with the addition of recently retired Richard Johnson and Barry Geraghty set to compete on 8th September.

West Ham went top of the Premier League last night after giving Leicester City a 4-1 thumping.  It did help that Leicester were down to 10 men for much of the game after Perez was sent off for stamping on an opponent.  They are one of only five teams to have won both of their matches and that is only the second time the Hammers have managed that feat.

England's cricketers were dealt a blow ahead of their third test match against India at Headingley when it was confirmed that fast bowler Mark Wood will miss the game owing to a shoulder injury.  England already have their backs against the wall at 1-0 down in the series and this will do little to aid their cause.
