There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newcastle, Warwick and our local track, Taunton, whilst there is an all-weather flat fixture from Chelmsford City.  David has two runners today at Taunton; Paricolor and Mr Clarkson.  Paricolor (pictured above) contests the 2m½f selling hurdle at 12.07pm.  Our four year old has been in good form of late, rattling off two successes in similar company at Leicester, including when beating principal rival Chef de Troupe last time.  We are worse off at the weights today, which should make things harder, although conditions should suit our gelding and he looks to have very good claims with winning rider Fergus Gillard taking 5lbs off his back.

Mr Clarkson runs in the 2m7f novices' limited handicap chase at 2.15pm.  A winner twice from this mark or higher over hurdles, he has claims on that basis and conditions should be to suit.  He jumps well and stays but would need to improve on his most recent efforts to figure.  Regular rider David Noonan is in the saddle and he could outrun his odds.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City were in Champions League action last night.  With qualification to the knockout stages already assured there was little to play for but Liverpool played out a score draw, whilst City beat Marseille 3-0.  Spurs, Arsenal and Leicester are involved in Europa Cup action tonight.

The Scottish Open snooker continues today in Milton Keynes.  Judd Trump, Ronnie O'Sullivan Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Kyren Wilson, Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy were among the big names to progress yesterday, although John Higgins was an early casualty but this was hardly surprising given his recent form.
