There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with the action coming on the flat at Chester, Musselburgh and Nottingham so unfortunately you are out of luck if you are a fan of the jumps.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although we will be back with runners a bit closer to home (at Newton Abbot) tomorrow.

Elsewhere today, there is a good card on the other side of the Irish Sea as the Curragh hosts a fixture with a couple of Group 3 contests on the agenda including the Loughbrown Stakes over 2m.  It features Dawn Patrol who was last seen running creditably in the St Leger at Doncaster – a repeat of that effort would make him hard to beat, especially as he receives a handy 7lbs weight allowance from his older rivals.

In other sports, the Russian Grand Prix takes place this afternoon before the F1 circus heads off to Germany the following weekend.  It will be interesting to see just how many spectators they allow into the circuit.

Meanwhile, over in America it is week 3 of the NFL and my beloved Minnesota Vikings bid to gain their first win of the season when they host the Tennessee Titans.  On previous form I don’t hold out much hope...oh dear!

My friend keeps saying "cheer up man it could be worse, you could be stuck underground in a hole full of water." I know he means well.
