There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newmarket, Kempton and Pontefract, whilst over the sticks it is the second day of Perth's fixture.  David has one runner today as Golden Jeffrey (pictured above) contests the 3m handicap hurdle at Perth at 1.10pm.  He ran much better last time when stepped-up in trip despite losing a shoe and is 5lbs lower this afternoon which looks reasonable.  He looks worth a try at this trip and definitely has the ability to be involved in a race of this nature, although he would need to improve again on what he has shown so far.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Newmarket hosts a decent card today with a Listed contest and a Group 3 on offer, although they will surely be disappointed to have drawn only 5 and 6 runners respectively.  In fact, there isn't a double digit field on the entire card.

There was a great result for one of our friends yesterday as broadcaster Mike Vince celebrated success in the Kerry National.  Mike is a member of the syndicate that owns Cabaret Queen, who held on in a desperately close finish at Listowel - very well done indeed!  Syndicates are a great way of getting involved in racehorse ownership without having to absorb all of the costs.  David is currently recruiting members for syndicates in a couple of very promising youngsters at Pond House - quality flat performer, Iron Heart and a handsome store by Kapgarde.  There are a few 10% shares available in both horses so do get in touch if you would like further details.

There was some exciting, if somewhat bizarre news for Wrexham football club.  The fan-owned team, currently in the National League announced that Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were interested in investing - a move which could see £2 million pumped into the club.  These are strange times we are living in!

Judd Trump progressed to the third round of the European Masters snooker in Milton Keynes yesterday with a convincing 5-1 win over Lukas Kleckers, although there was a shock of sorts as Ali Carter was dumped out of the tournament 5-1 by Luca Brecel.  There was bad news also for Gary Wilson and Daniel Wells who were forced to withdraw from the tournament having tested positive for Covid-19.

A Vicks Vaporub truck overturned on the motorway this morning. Amazingly, there was no congestion for eight hours!
