There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Goodwood and Thirsk and a jumps fixture from Bangor.  David has one runner this afternoon as Lady Reset contests the first division of the 2m½f novices' hurdle at Bangor at 12 noon.  As a dual-winner, she had some decent form on the flat with a rating in the 70's and she was not disgraced when fourth on her hurdling debut.  Tom Scudamore takes the ride and whilst the favourite sets a useful standard, we look to have each-way claims.

It is day two of Glorious Goodwood and the highlight is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at 3.15pm.  What a line-up with Mohaather taking on 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko and unbeaten Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin.  The other contenders, including St James Palace winner Circus Maximus aren't too shabby either so it promises to be a fascinating contest.  Better still, the card is covered by the excellent ITV team as well.

Meanwhile, over in Ireland it is day three of the Galway Festival and their big race race is the Galway Plate, a 2m6½f handicap chase with 22 runners.  It is another Mullins/Elliott carve up with the pair represented by six runners each (albeit one reserve for the latter).

What a performance from Stradivarius to land a fourth Goodwood Cup yesterday.  The champion stayer of his generation looked to be in a bit of trouble a couple of furlongs out as he was a little short of room, but Frankie managed to extract him from the rails in the nick of time and his partner quickened up smartly to mow down Nayef Road and Santiago close home.  There were suggestions afterwards that Stradivarius would take on Enable in the Arc and that would be a thrilling contest.  Mind you, much as Stradivarius has a great turn of foot I would have my reservations that he possesses the speed of some of the middle distance specialists.

England bolted up in the final test of the series against the West Indies, skittling the visitors out for just 129, well short of their target of 399.  Stuart Broad was great again as he passed his 500th test wicket, only the fourth fast bowler to achieve this and the seventh in total.  Quite some achievement.  England were very good in the last two matches but they are going to need to be at their best for a bigger challenge forthcoming - Pakistan.
