It was a weekend to remember for young Kieron Edgar who rode two point-to-point winners within two days at the weekend, so that already makes him twice as successful as MCP was in the saddle!  Kieron works in the yard and has his amateur's licence and is clearly a decent young jockey in the making - let's just hope that unlike Martin, he stays on top of the horse!

I had a few nervous moments yesterday when I heard that the ante-post Derby favourite Carlton House had met with a problem.  However, I am assured that the extent of the problem has been blown-up out of all proportion, and I am still more than hopeful that he can land my wager on Saturday at Epsom.  Of greater concern to me are those people who keep telling me that he may not get the trip of 1m4f, although the lads at Sir Michael Stoute's tell me that he will improve for the extra two furlongs - this game is all about opinions, and that is what makes it so great.

Talking of the Derby, I read that 34 horses took part in the 1862 renewal...no, I wasn't there!  But just imagine the amount of hard luck stories there must have been in that race with all those runners coming round the downhill bend at Tattenham Corner.  Remember also that there is a camber all the way up the straight with the track falling away to the far-side, so many of the horses would have been hanging too - there must have been some brave jockeys about!

I see that in his blog, David makes mention of the Rodi Greene testimonial cricket match at Cullompton Cricket Club on Friday night.  Now, I understand that the master of Pond House has been pencilled in to play, but I wonder if he has employed the services of one of his secretaries Gail Harrison?  Gail has famously been given the nickname "Boycott" as she never lets anything though...sounds like just the sort of help David and his teammates could do with against Otter Brewery!
