Eden Du Houx - Winner at Chepstow
There was a great win for Eden Du Houx at Chepstow yesterday in a tight finish and he had to survive a stewards inquiry. He had some very smart bumper form last season and had run okay over hurdles before Christmas but he has had a wind operation since then and it definitely seemed to have helped in yesterday. He led and jumped well but did drift a little left and bumped his rival between the last two flights of hurdles. He and the runner up had a dueling battle up the run in and we just prevailed. I think both he and the runner up are two very nice prospects and I hope he can build on this and rank highly among the leading novice hurdlers by the end of the season.
Today David has one runner, Remastered, in the 3.00pm handicap hurdle at Sandown over 2m7f with Tom Scudamore on board. He benefited from the fitting of a hood last time at Chepstow when finishing a very close second to the subsequent Welsh Grand National winner Potters Corner. He has had a wind operation since then and we are hopeful he should not be too far away. It is very competitive race and they bet 13/2 the field. Remastered is 14/1 in the Racing Post. It is a very good card at Sandown and there is also jumping at Musselburgh and Wetherby while there is flat racing at Lingfield and Kempton.
It could be argued that the best card of the day is in Ireland at Leopardstown as it is Day 1 of the Dublin Racing Festival. Some of the biggest names are on show with three Grade 1 races and racing gets underway at 12.50pm.
Away from the racing it is also a great sporting day which includes the start of the Six Nations. Wales are at home to Italy at 2.15pm while Ireland play Scotland at 4.45pm. In the Premiership football the lunchtime game is Leicester versus Chelsea while Manchester United versus Wolves kicks off at 5.30pm. There really is some talent on show today, equine & human! Enjoy everyone.
