There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Sedgefield and Huntingdon and all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  There are no runners from the stable today.  It looks as though stable jockey Tom Scudamore has decided to take the day off, although David Noonan heads all the way to Huntingdon for just one ride and it looks as though he has a decent chance as well.  Let's hope that he is successful, otherwise it is going to be a long journey home for the young Irishman.

There is a good card over in Ireland at Thurles with big fields and decent prize money on offer.  Mind you, if it is money you are after the only place to be is at Sha Tin.  They have a seven race card with maximum fields (and reserves!) in every one, although it is hardly surprising when the most modest purse on the card offering almost £40,000 to the winner of the class 5 handicap!  You would be lucky to pick up £4,000 for a similar contest on these shores.

You have to feel sorry for Britain's bobsleigh team.  The four-man team had to wait six years to receive their bronze medals from Sochi following the disqualification of the two Russian sleds.  Within minutes of getting their reward they noticed several typo's in the engraving so have had to return them.  What an absolute farce.  It was a similar story for the American team who were moved from third to second.

I see that Shane Warne's baggy green cap that he wore throughout his Test cricket career made over £528,000 at auction.  He donated the cap raise money to aid tackle the terrible Australian bush fires. The cap was initially expected to raise about a third of that amount so that is a tremendous effort.

Since my mate's divorce three years ago he has put on over five stone in weight.  The doctor has told him to stop celebrating!
