Ghost Serge consented to jump off with the field last night at Wolverhampton and he did not fare too badly, sticking on and passing horses in the straight.  He last ran on the level in 2018 at this sort of trip, although based on this evidence he looks sure to appreciate further nowadays.  It was a relief to see him complete and at least now there is something to build on.  He certainly has plenty of ability and I am sure David will find a way to unlock it.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Taunton and Lingfield and an all-weather flat fixture from Southwell.  There are no runners from the stable today which is unusual with a meeting on the doorstep at Taunton.

Talking of Taunton, I notice there is a hunter chase on the card today and a few of the top stables are represented.  Whilst, they are breaking no rules, it has to be disconcerting for the likes of Mrs C Hitch to be taking on big, professional outfits in hunter chases...but that is just my opinion.

There is a good article in today's Racing Post by Julian Muscatt about MCP and his pioneering training methods.  It certainly makes for an interesting read so pick up a copy if you get a chance.

Arsenal did just enough to beat Leeds last night in the third round of the FA Cup.  Despite this success, there can be no doubting that new manager Mikel Arteta has his work cut out to turn their fortunes around.

It is back to EFL Cup action tonight and there is a local derby as Manchester United host Manchester City.  Once again, much will depend on how highly the manager values the prize (the answer is 'not very') and how strong a side they decide to turn out.

I went out for dinner last night but arrived at the restaurant early.  The manager said to me, "Do you mind waiting for a while?"

"No" I replied.

"Great, take these drinks to table 10" he said...
