It is great to see the stable continue in such good form with another good winner yesterday.  Paricolor ran out a decisive winner of the amateur riders' handicap hurdle at Fakenham.  Given a confident ride by up and coming young amateur Fergus Gillard, he moved closer at the end of the back straight and swept around the leader off the home turn to win going away.  This was Fergus' first winner for the stable and we were all very pleased for him.  It was also fantastic for owners' Guy and Jane Cunningham who have had horses at Pond House for many years and will have greatly enjoyed this success.  Paricolor is only a three year old who has had four starts over hurdles, so he is certainly open to improvement and looks capable of winning again.  Over at Lingfield Yaa Salaam ran a very nice race when close runner-up to a potentially very useful type.  He seemed to handle the heavy ground okay but may be even better on a sounder surface.

David has one runner this afternoon; Buster Edwards who contests the staying handicap hurdle at Chepstow at 1.45pm.  A ready winner on good ground at Fontwell in May, he is still 5lbs higher than that winning mark.  Even so, he has gone well on this track previously and stays very well, although he has yet to conclusively prove that he handles testing ground.  David Noonan gets on well with him and he could surprise a few people at a big price.

There was a remarkable feat on the flat when Mark Johnston surpassed Martin's record of 243 winners in a British season, flat or jumps on Monday.  He still has a few more to go to beat MCP's best overall score of 253 winners in a calendar year (which include 13 flat successes in 1999) but he still has a while to get there and you certainly wouldn't bet against him achieving it.  Congratulations to him on a job very well done.

There has been a real shake-up in the Premiership with Jose Mourinho taking over from the sacked Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham Hotspur manager.  The side had done well under Pocettino, firmly re-establishing themselves as a force in the Premiership and reaching the final of the Champions' League.  That doesn't seem to buy you much grace in football these days though and after a bad start to the season Pochettino has been shown the door in favour of the controversial Mourinho.  His presence at Manchester United did not do much to help the side so it will be interesting to see how he fares here.  He will either inspire them or completely tear the locker room apart.
