There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Nottingham, Kempton and Wolverhampton as well as jumps fixtures from Taunton and Fakenham.  David has three runners at Taunton's first meeting of the new season today where the going is officially good (good/firm in places) and yes, I did get that right!  Ourmullion contests the 2m3f hands & heels handicap hurdle at 1.30pm.  The handicapper absolutely crucified him after his win at Newton Abbot in July and he is still paying for his consistency now with a mark of 104.  He will love the ground and should appreciate going right-handed but would need to improve on his most recent effort.  Ben Godfrey is in the saddle.

Dusky Hercules runs in the maiden hurdle at 2.30pm and he has had a wind operation since his last run in December 2018.  He had bits and pieces of form that would give him a squeak but the op is going to have had to improve him.  Tom Scudamore rides.

Our final runner is Malangen in the 2m novices' handicap chase at 3.00pm.  He was a good (and slightly unfortunate) second at Worcester last time out on soft ground where he finished in front of today's favourite Way Out West (a winner since).  Malangen will love this lively surface and has a good chance under Tom Scudamore.

Torquay and Everton earned me a few quid last night with the football so I will be reinvesting some of that on tonight's good matches.  Chelsea take on Manchester United and Liverpool play Arsenal.  If they turn out proper teams I would be backing Liverpool at 20/23 and Chelsea at 10/11.  I think I will wait to see which teams turn up before getting involved.

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has stated that Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan ban of two years is not enough.  Shakib admitted three charges of failing to report approaches from bookmaker Deepak Aggarwal in 2018.  Vaughan says that all the players are briefed on what they can and can't do.  I have to say that I agree with him.
