There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Nottingham, Kempton and Newcastle as well as jumps fixtures from Ludlow and Wincanton.  David has two runners at Wincanton today; Percy Street (pictured above) and Midnight Magic.  Percy Street (who carries the purple and yellow silks of new owners David & Christine Stam) contests the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 3.45pm.  He is a course and distance winner on this ground and from this handicap mark, so he certainly has the ability to go well.  Champion jockey Richard Johnson has been booked to ride and whilst this looks a stronger race a repeat of that effort would see him in with a decent chance.  Midnight Magic runs in the 3m1f handicap chase at 4.20pm and he has been knocking on the door having finished runner-up on his last three starts.  He stays well and a mark of 94 does not look unreasonable.  Good chance of going one better under David Noonan.

I see there was a 1m2f Leicester seller yesterday but there were no bids or claims for any of the runners which is a bit of a surprise.  David picked up Teaser from this race last year and he has gone on to be a tough and consistent winning hurdler and chaser.

Godolphin blew Coolmore away yesterday in the sales ring as they went to 3.6 million guineas to secure a half-brother to their St James' Palace Stakes, Barney Roy in the opening session of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales.  Just think how many jumpers they could have brought for that!

Wales take on Fiji in the rugby world cup on ITV at 10.45am.  Wales have won their last two meetings so that bodes well for them, although I can see this match being tighter than many people have predicted (not that I am an expert!).

There was a heated match between Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini in the third round of the Shanghai Masters with Murray telling his opponent to shut up.  Fognini shouted as he put a smash away which made Murray unhappy to the extent that he had it out with the umpire before leaving the court.  It's still a mighty long way back to the top.

I went to a hotel in Torquay yesterday.  A fella in the foyer said, "Are you here for the Twitter convention?", to which I replied, "Yes".  "Follow me" he said!  Have a great day...
