It is the Chester Cup this afternoon and we are represented by last year's winner Mamlook in this competitive handicap.  A draw of nine will not make things easy, but it is far from being a disaster too - Richard Hughes gave him a fantastic ride last season and hopefully he will be able to repeat the dose today.  To hear David's thoughts on the task facing Mamlook click here...We also have three runners at Punchestown this afternoon: Street Entertainer, Battle Group and I'msingingtheblues.  I saw David being interviewed on Attheraces yesterday and he was still looking okay (although it was only day one of the Festival!).  Mr Thriller was in the process of running a big race in the champion novices' chase when capsizing at the fourth last and judging by the way he was going at the time, he looked booked for a place at the very least.  Let's hope that we get some better luck today.

Many happy returns to sixteen times champion jockey A P McCoy who is 37 today.  The Post say that he is BBC Sports Personality of the Year, although I think he has probably won a few more awards than just that one!  Let's hope that he can get a timely birthday present by scoring aboard the yard's Street Entertainer at Punchestown this afternoon.

I liked Richard Hoiles comments that Tom Tom are going to be the new sponsors of the the Cross Country race at Punchestown.  It was interesting to see the horses run through the new water splash on the banks course.  A P said that the banks races are "not for me!" - bottle gone AP?...I sound like Arthur Daley!

We have been enjoying a lovely spell of weather over the last few weeks, so I ventured down to the gallops and have a couple of pictures of the horses in action.  They are of Hunterview, Togiak and Raslan.
