There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Haydock, Yarmouth, Hamilton and Kempton as well as a jumps card from Fontwell.  There are a big field of runners at Punchestown where there is a 25 runner maiden hurdle on the card as well as three reserves.  It is not as though the prize money is even that good, they just don' have so many meetings to the opportunities are fewer and further between.  There are no runners from Pond House today.

If you are planning a trip to Royal Ascot next week then you had better give your mode of transport careful consideration.  The proposed rail strikes are still going ahead and that will cause chaos with South West Railways reducing their time tables and replacement bus services covering the deficit.  Following heavy rain over the weekend it is looking like the ground will be riding much slower than last year.  They have had 65mm and I wouldn't be surprised if the ground were good/soft by day one and there being some surprising results.

I know I have said it time and again, but there really does need to be a rule introduced to stop punters losing out when horses refuse to race.  As far as I am concerned they should be declared non-runners even if they come under starters orders.  Camakasi refused at Salisbury and Fata Morgana did the same at Lingfield - it seems terribly unfair to me.

The big golf tournament starts tomorrow at 2.45pm on Sky Sports.  It is the US Open at Pebble Beach... let's hope that they get better weather than we have been enjoying.  Rory McIlroy has been installed as the favourite but is he capable of putting in two good tournaments in a row?  I have placed a few each way bets on J Rose at 28/1, J Thomas at 30/1 and J Rahm at 30/1 - those will give me a bit of an interest.

It would seem that world boxing champion Andy Ruiz is nuts about Snickers chocolate bars.  Snickers tweeted that 'Victory is sweet, but so is the package we are sending you!'  It looks like he had eaten most of them before the fight!

You need to have deep pockets if you fancy a seat at Wembley.  You could pay £840 for a seat for the finals of Euro 2020.
