There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Haydock, Newmarket, Beverley, Chelmsford City, Chepstow and Lingfield. It may be a Saturday and the day when most people can get to the races, but if you are a fan of jump racing I'm afraid you are out of luck. Ourmullion was set to represent the yard at Chepstow this afternoon but following 33mm of rain at the Welsh track, the ground has become unsuitably testing for him and he does not run. The big meeting of the day is at Haydock where they do have a Group race and Listed contest. Whilst there are no runners from Pond House today, we will have one at Perth tomorrow as Van Gogh du Granit contests the Sam Moshead Perth Gold Cup. Van Gogh will be leaving today on his long journey - I know it is a long way as I have done that drive. At least by travelling up today it will give the horse time to settle down before tomorrow's race. I would imagine that jockey David Noonan will also be making his way up at some point today.
I see that the ground at Haydock for today's meeting has turned heavy, amazing when you think that the going at Newmarket is still officially listed as good/firm. I know it is obvious, but people do still overlook it...if you are having a wager today, make sure that your selection will handle the ground. It is hard enough finding a winner without picking horses that are beaten before they start.
It is Lady McCoy's birthday today. I won't tell you how old AP's long-suffering wife is, all I will say is that she does not look it! Many happy returns Chanelle, we hope you have a lovely day!

England take on Bangladesh today in the Cricket World Cup at 10.30am and the host nation are 1/7. I will just be watching this match. Meanwhile New Zealand and Afghanistan face each other at our local pitch at Somerset CCC in Taunton and there should be plenty of things to do around the County town, even if you are not a cricket fan.
There are a few football friendlies taking place and if you like backing a few short ones you could back Scotland to beat Cyprus at 8/15 and Croatia to beat Wales at 8/13. It looks like a double for me.
Sadly British lady tennis player Jo Konta was beaten in her semi-final of the French Open yesterday, she lost 7-5, 7-6 to a Czech teenager. Konta looked so nervous and wasted three set points. The Czech youngster looked very good and is clearly one to keep an eye on. Her name is Marketa Vondroussova...that's a mouthful! Before you start to feel too sorry for Konta, it has still been a good week's work for the British number one, with prize money of over £500,000 for her Paris exploits.

I was mugged by a man on crutches wearing a camouflage jacket yesterday...I thought you can hide, but you can't run! Have a great weekend....
