There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Epsom, Carlisle, Doncaster, Wolverhampton and Chelmsford whilst there is also a jumps card from Stratford.  David has one runner this evening as Mount Nelly (pictured above) contests the closing point-to-point bumper at 8.50pm.  She ran a good race at Exeter on her rules debut and was not disgraced at Aintree last time out.  Fergus Gillard is in the saddle and claims 7lbs off her back - she looks to hold each-way claims.

The big meeting of the day comes from Epsom with the highlight being the Oaks at 4.30pm.  There is a big field of 14 for the fillies' classic and John Gosden has gone to the expense of supplementing Mehdaayih so she must be well-fancied.  It is a cracking fixture with another Group One, The Coronation Cup also on the card.

If you are thinking of going on the train to Royal Ascot you may wish to re-think your mode of transport as South Western Rail are talking about a five day strike during the entire meeting.

I spent an enjoyable day yesterday watching host nation England win their opening match of the cricket world cup at the Oval.  It was a good performance as they beat South Africa easily with the star of the match, Ben Stokes of Bristol nightclub fame.  He scored a cracking 89 and also pulled off an incredible catch whilst fielding.  Today the West Indies and Pakistan face-off at 10.30am and you can back the Windies at 10/11.  Chris Gayle is a great batsman to have in these sort of matches.

Rory McIlroy is struggling in the golf at Muirfield Village, Ohio.  He lost one ball and then put another into the water.  With so many people watching you would have thought it would be impossible to lose a ball!
