There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Sedgefield, Ffos Las and Southwell as well as a couple of flat fixtures from Chepstow and Beverley.  There is one runner from Pond House today as Druide Premier contests the 2m6f handicap hurdle at 7.00pm.  He was well beaten when last seen on the track but has had a wind operation in the interim so let's hope that has helped.  The stable's horses are in good form and he is 4lbs lower in the weights so while he is a big price, he cannot be discounted.  Meanwhile Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have picked up outside rides at the meeting.

Many of the horses are now out enjoying their summer holidays and they will certainly appreciate the summer sun on their backs.  Above is a lovely picture of a couple of them turned out to grass and relaxing.

I was looking at the British flat trainers' championship and noticed that Mark Johnston has already broken through the £1million barrier with 61 winners.  Second in the list is Aidan O'Brien with 6 winners.  Personally, I think the championship should be decided by winners trained rather than prize money.  Just think, if O'Brien wins the Derby (which is looking increasingly more likely) he could be heading the table on just 7 winners and that doesn't seem right to me.  The jockeys are decided by winners ridden which makes much more sense.

How can Brighton sack their manager Chris Hughton who has done a fantastic job with their football team?  Just keeping the side in the Premiership is a job and a half...he should have been given a pay rise rather than shown the door.  Some of these directors do not understand football.  Whoever they get as a replacement is on a hiding to nothing.  It could be a blessing in disguise for Hughton - he could move on to a bigger club on the back of his achievements.

Golfer Brooks Koepka has earned himself plenty of new fans in New York City.

With the 2019 PGA Championship being held at Bethpage Black Course on Long Island, Michelob Ultra gave Koepka the opportunity to win beer for New Yorkers if he could hit a shot from Governors Island onto a barge on the Hudson River.  Koepka didn't disappoint, hitting the ball onto the moving green despite strong winds.  The free beers will be available at select bars in New York City from 3-6 pm on May 16, the first day of the PGA Championship.  I bet there will be a few drunks about - people always manage to drink a bit more when it is free!

West Brom take on Aston Villa tonight at 8pm on Sky Sports and there shouldn't be a lot between them.  I think I will have a little wager on West Brom at 17/10.

I was watching some of the county cricket on the television and the thing that occurred to me was how empty the ground was.  It would seem that limited overs cricket has completely killed the longer format.  I wouldn't be keen on sitting around for 3 days to wait for a result so I can quite understand why.
