There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Musselburgh, Lingfield, Chepstow and Newcastle as well as a jumps fixture from Cheltenham where they host a Hunter Chase meeting.  There is one runner from Pond House today as Three Star General (pictured above) reverts to the flat at Chepstow where he contests the 2m handicap at 5.00pm.  He is fit and well from a productive hurdling campaign where he has finished runner-up on his last three starts.  Good apprentice jockey Finley Marsh takes the ride and claims a handy 3lbs off his back.  He looks to have a decent chance.

It is a bright, sunny morning at Pond House (albeit a bit cold!) so I had to grab my camera when I was down the gallops earlier to bring you this shot that even Ed Whitaker would be proud of!

The big race of the day takes place at Punchestown with the Champion Hurdle at 5.30pm where Buveur d'Air takes on Apple's Jade, Supasundae and Melon.  It should make for interesting viewing.

I see that trainer John Feane was fined £140 after Bellepower arrived in the Musselburgh parade ring without her declared cheekpieces.  I bet he doesn't do that again!

Golfer Roger Saunders retired from golf as he wasn't hitting the ball too well so he bought a racehorse for a bit of a hobby.  It would have been like scoring a hole in one when it won for him at Redcar...he must think it is an easy game!

There is a great picture of old rivals A P McCoy and Ruby Walsh in the Racing Post today.  AP has the Pipeline sponsorship on his colours...don't they both look young?!  AP has been saying that Ruby Walsh was better than him and great though Ruby was, I think that AP is just being modest.  He remains the finest jump jockey I have ever seen or am ever likely to see.

There was a good result for Arsenal last night as they beat Valencia 3-1 whilst Chelsea drew away to Frankfurt.  Everton play Burnley tonight and look worth a punt at 8/13.

David Gilbert should have picked up a £50,000 bonus at the snooker world championships in Sheffield for a maximum 147 break.  He potted the first 15 reds with 14 blacks but ran out of position after potting the last red.

British lady tennis player Jo Konta has reached her first semi-final in seven months (and her first ever on clay) in the Morocco Open.  She now faces number four seed Ajla Tomyjanovic who she beat in Brisbane in January so she has sound claims of reaching the final...let's hope so!

I just dropped a jar of mayonnaise on my foot.  The last thing the wound needs is dressing!  Keep smiling...
