It was a good weekend for the stable with the success of Malangen (pictured above) at Bangor on Saturday afternoon.  He went on at the penultimate flight under Nick Schofield and despite being a bit untidy at those hurdles, he won well with eight lengths back to the runner-up.  He is in good form at present with this being his second win since the end of March.  Now that the penny has dropped, hopefully he can improve a bit more - he is sure to be going up a bit in the weights for this.  Up in Scotland I thought that both Rathlin Rose and Van Gogh du Granite outran their odds before stamina became an issue over the four mile trip.  The ground was plenty quick enough - the opening contest was won in a time almost 11 seconds faster than standard so that tells you how quick the ground was.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Pontefract and Windsor as well as a jumps fixture from Hexham.  Unsurprisingly there are no runners from Pond House today and it looks as though stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have decided to take the day off.

I see that Brendan Powell has retired from training and instead is going to work as a liaison at the races for Joseph O'Brien's owners.  What a world of experience he will bring to that young operation.  Sounds like a good job to me...I can't believe I didn't get a call!

What a performance from Tiger Woods to win the Masters golf at the weekend.  I can honestly say that I never thought I would see Woods win another major championship.  He played very steady golf at Augusta to land his 15th major, putting him only three behind Jack Nicklaus.  He was very emotional after winning and some amazing sporting icons paid tribute including the likes of Serena Williams and Magic Johnson.  Even Donald Trump tweeted "Congratulations to Tiger Woods, a truly great champion".  I agree with the President for once!

Liverpool played well to beat Chelsea 2-0 at the weekend and have been cut to 11/10 to win the Premier League.  Watford take on Arsenal tonight at 8pm and that is on Sky Sports and I am tempted by the 13/10 available about the Gunners.

Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix at the weekend.  Is he really that much better than anybody else or is his car that much better?  Nobody has been able to stop Mercedes' dominance in the last five years.

I bumped into an old mate of mine that played in a band called The Hinges back in the 60's...they supported The Doors.  Keep smiling...
