There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Wincanton, Market Rasen and Ludlow, whilst there is an all-weather flat card from Newcastle.  David has one runner today as Friday Night Light (pictured above) contests the 2m2½f handicap hurdle at Market Rasen at 1.35pm.  It is a tight little race despite there only being seven runners with the bookies going 9/2 co-favourites of three the field.  Friday Night Light is back down to a handy mark which is lower than when runner-up at Taunton and Ascot last term.  He would have claims on that basis, although he will need to improve on his most recent outings, although they did come in a much higher grade.  Tom Scudamore and David Noonan head to Wincanton where they have both picked up some outside rides.

I thought that both of our runners ran creditably yesterday.  Three Star General finished second at Plumpton and he looks capable of winning over this sort of trip before long.  Percy Street finished fourth at Newbury after briefly looking to have his rivals in trouble turning into the straight.  He is another who looks like his turn is not far away.

Do pizza and jockeys go together?  Well, jump jockey Tom Garner has set up a mobile catering operation which he says is for when his racing days are done.  He set it up with former apprentice Josh Baudains after finding an old horsebox in Upper Lambourn and they set about converting it into a pizza oven.  They will be going to point-to-points and other outside events.  Well done to them for giving the future some consideration.

I see that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is about to get a new contract that could be worth £400,000 per week.  Whilst it is crazy money, he would be worth every penny in today's game - he is like having two extra defenders in your team.  Get it signed quickly before he changes his mind!

Shane Lowry shot a great round of 62 to equal the course record at the Abu Dhabi Championship.  He played one shot from what looked like a rubbish tip.  Anyway, a 10 under par round made for great viewing.  I reckon he could probably now afford to buy a razor to shave with!

Lords have announced that they will be giving the iconic cricket ground a £50 million facelift.  I am sure they no what they are doing, but that is some serious investment.  Other than one day matches, do that many people still attend?

I've just started a new job installing mirrors...it was always something I could see myself doing!  Keep smiling...
