There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card at Plumpton and an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads to Plumpton for just one ride.  The 'one ride' theory may be worth a go as his mount looks to have a decent chance in the 2.40pm race.  I must say that Plumpton have put up some good prize money today and should be congratulated for a job well done.  They have even managed to attract Barry Geraghty to Sussex which is something that does not happen all that often.

Yesterday we reported on the horrific fall of champion apprentice jockey Jason Watson on the all-weather at Kempton on Friday.  It turns out that he has suffered two fractures to his vertabrae in his neck and will be out of action for six to eight weeks.  We wish him well as he recovers.  These jockeys really do earn their money, risking their lives every time they get on a horse.  Can you imagine how long a footballer would be out with a similar injury (and they get paid significantly more too!)?

I am always amazed by the offers the bookmakers give the punters these days.  I guess with all the competition there is about now, you must have an angle to get new custom.  When I was trying to back Martin's horses it was always difficult to get on, never mind getting special offers as well.  How times have changed!  Mind you, there is normally plenty of small print - these bookies don't just give things away.

There are plenty of FA Cup football matches taking place this afternoon so you know where I will be!  Manchester City are 1/20 to beat Rotherham and it is a similar scenario with the rest of the Premier League teams.  Unusually I will just be watching the games on the box without having a wager.  I must admit I do enjoy having an interest and switching from side to side to see how my teams are doing.

Matchroom boss Barry Hearn has said that Dillian Whyte is the most dangerous opponent that Anthony Joshua will ever have faced when they square off in their next fight.  Interestingly, Barry's son Eddie is promoting the fight...do you think he might be trying to drum up some interest for the fight his son is promoting?
