Well, at last it is the start of the three day Grand National meeting at Aintree - all of the National Hunt stars will be out in force over the coming few days, and what a way to kick off proceedings than with Big Buck's versus Grands Crus rematch?  It should certainly be an exciting contest and let's hope that both contenders give their true running and provide us with another race to remember.  I think the track will suit our charge, although he would still appreciate a softer surface to show his very best form.  I am sure that Big Buck's will be beaten one day, it would just be nice if it was our fellow that was able to do it...remember Cheltenham form is often turned on it's head come Liverpool - either way, I can't wait to find out!

Following on from that great race, we have the Aintree Foxhunters - do you remember young Willie Twiston-Davies in the Cheltenham race?  The poor lad had the race at his mercy only to part company with his mount - I will remember seeing him walk back to the weighing room inconsolably with his father Nigel's arm around him.  Anyway, he bids to atone for that unfortunate reversal this afternoon, so more time off school for the young lad...I am sure that his headmaster knows where he is and he will probably be watching.

I hope that we don't have to get out on the last race...they go 7/1 the field in the Racing Post.  Having said that, with so many favourites having a solid look to them, it could be the bookmakers trying to get a result come the last race!

I reckon that Ruby Walsh looks a good bet to finish the meeting as top jockey - he has a strong book of rides today, and at odds of around 10/11 (with Hills) he should be worth a punt.  I wonder how long that price will last?

Let's hope that former Grand National winning trainer Toby Balding is okay.  Toby is in hospital after suffering a stroke that has impaired his sight - he was due to go to Buckingham Palace next month to collect his OBE that he was awarded in the Queen's Honours List.  Let's hope that he makes a good recovery.
