There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newcastle, Yarmouth and Kempton as well as a jumps card from Exeter.  The ground at Exeter is officially good/firm and that is why there are some small fields of runners.  Fortunately for us we have a couple of horses that will appreciate the surface; Kalifourchon and Dream Free.  Kalifourchon contests the 2m7f handicap hurdle.  Our seven year old is dropping down the weights and ran well on his penultimate start, although he has it to do to turn around the form with Bamford Bridge who beat him last time.  Our other runner is Dream Free who goes in the 2m1f amateur riders' handicap hurdle at 3.20pm and is partnered by 16 year old Fergus Gillard.  He has run okay without reaching the frame and this quicker ground may help - with 15 runners, it is easily the biggest field of the day.

There was a good crowd for yesterday's meeting at Windsor, mind you it helped that there was free admission and the kids are on half-term.  There was a 6f claimer there yesterday with 14 runners and not one of them was claimed - I would be willing to bet that if it had been over 1m2f or 1m4f there would have been some claims.  Why on earth do they not have more middle distance claimers or sellers?  They could unearth potential jumpers for the future and generate some revenue for the tracks...where is the down side?

The big football match of the day is between Manchester United and Juventus and kick-off is at 8pm tonight.  Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford and I am sure he will get a fantastic reception.  I am tempted by the 23/10 available about United.  I know...I must be mad!  Maybe I will just play up some of my Arsenal winnings from last night.

It was good for host Sergio Garcia to win the Andalucia Masters golf tournament.  It was reduced to three rounds owing to the weather.  It is the third time that Garcia has won the title...talk about home field advantage!

Former world champion Stuart Bingham won the Steve Davis English Open snooker at Crawley beating Mark Davis 9-7 in the final.  I wonder if he backed himself?!  Some of you may remember that he was banned for six months for betting £35,000 on snooker matches.
