Weekend Jottings

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card from Pontefract and a jumps fixture from Southwell.  There are no runners from Pond House today.  I notice that champion jockey Richard Johnson has three nice rides at Southwell and he could be the jockey to follow.  He is still 27 winners behind Harry Skelton in the jockeys' championship and while Johnson gets a lot more outside rides, I am starting to think that Skelton will take some pegging back.  Indeed, I may have to have a little wager.

If you are really interested in horse racing, a date for your diary is Monday 27th August when the Epsom trainers open the doors to their stables.  It is a Bank Holiday Monday so it should be well supported, while there will be a hop on/off bus service around the routes to each yard.  Tell the missus you are going for a day out in the country...the action starts at 8.30am on the gallops and is well worth a visit.  Proceeds go to Racing Welfare, which as you will know from our blogs is an excellent cause.

I see that ten people have been charged over the violent disorder at Goodwood.  They were aged between 18 and 32 and will appear in Worthing Magistrates Court on 25th September.  let's hope they get more than a slap on the wrist...surely they must be banned from racecourses for life?

Manchester United are 4/5 to win at Brighton today.  Surely United have not gone that far backwards and are well worth a punt (even if the manager is not talking to the team!)?  Meanwhile, Burnley are 4/6 chances to beat Watford so I will be having a little double today.

I don't think that Jason Roy will be throwing his bat to the ground again in a hurry.  The bat rebounded and hit him in the face and to make matters worse, the incident happened in his dressing room.  He said, "I'm embarrassed and apologise to my team mates and fans for this incident of stupidity"...at least he managed to get one word right!
