                With Barney Curley

Today there are seven meetings, all on the flat at Ascot, Haydock, Newmarket, Chelmsford, Redcar, Ayr and Lingfield.  It is the Shergar Cup at Ascot today.  There is a nice advert in today's Racing Post.  Frankie Dettori, it says what the meetings means to me....I see that Frankie is actually riding at Newmarket today so I wonder what does it actually mean to him?!  Just imagine these days a 12 year old riding a winner.  It is hard to believe but it was 70 years ago that Lester Piggott rode his first winner at Haydock and he ended up riding 4493!  His final winner was also at Haydock on Palace Gate Jack 24 years ago.  I will never forget I went into Barney Curley's house one day several years ago and when I walked in Barney and Lester were sitting at his kitchen table.  I just wonder what they were plotting?!  I was such a fan on Lester that I named my son after the great man!

Manchester United kicked off the new Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Leicester last night.  It seemed to me watching that Mourinho has got the players running around a lot more and closing the opposition down.  I still think they could do with Harry Maguire to strengthen up their team.  Mata looks slow and I can see him struggling to keep his place in the team.  You can back Bournemouth at 10/11 to beat Cardiff and Tottenham are 11/10 to win away at Newcastle and that match is on the box at 12.30pm today.

In the cricket I don't think I would like to be batting at Lords against Jimmy Anderson.  He took five wickets and the ball was swinging all over the place.  India were bowled out for 107 in 35 overs.  It will be interesting to see how we bat on this pitch.

Tiger Woods has got a terrible temper.  I said to him, do you like golf buggies...and he went off on one!!  Have a nice day.
