It is day two of our summer sabbatical and there are five flat meetings taking place this afternoon with the action coming from Brighton, Chepstow, Kempton, Pontefract & Yarmouth.  The most interesting race of the day as far as I am concerned is the 1m4f selling handicap at Brighton.  Four of the nine runners are three year olds and like David says in his blog this week, they are not easy to come by.  With the minimum claiming price of £6,000 there could be a cheap potential hurdler or two in the line-up.  Speaking of which, don't forget that David picked up a couple out of sellers last week.  Actually, Martin was responsible for buying Dream Free, while David purchased a promising looking three year old called Melangen who won the second of his two starts.  Do get in touch if you would be interested in owning one (or even a share in one).

Talk about following in your father's footsteps...eleven year old Thomas Bradburne won the pony race at Newbury yesterday.  His father Mark rode a winner at the Cheltenham Festival during his riding career and finished third in the Grand National aboard Lord Atterbury for Martin in 2004.  I think these pony races are a great idea and it really helps the youngsters get a step on the ladder to becoming a jockey.

I see that a rubber surface has been laid across the Bury Road towards the gallops in Newmarket.  The road gets thousands of horses going across it every day so this solution should certainly make things safer for the horses and the traffic.  If you have never seen the gallops at Newmarket you would be amazed at just how many horses are exercised each day.  It is well worth a visit if you are a racing enthusiast.

Manchester United's Paul Pogba has asked for a pay rise.  Fair enough, but he wants £200,000 per week...the poor love is obviously struggling to manage on is £180,000 per week deal.  I think I would be showing these prima donnas the door.

The USPGA golf gets underway tomorrow and I just don't know how the bookmakers can make Rory McIlroy their second favourite.  I have had a small interest on Jason Day at 22/1 and Justin Thomas at 16's.

Chelsea beat Lyon 5-4 on penalties last night at Stamford Bridge with 38 year old goalkeeper Rob Green saving the penalty that gave Chelsea the win.  It just goes to show that you're never too old to be a good goalie...my goodness, I make it sound like you are over the hill by the time you hit your late 30's!

Someone actually complimented me on my driving the other day.  I went to my car and a note was left on the windscreen saying "parking fine"!
