There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Huntingdon and Sedgefield as well as all-weather flat action from Lingfield and Newcastle.  There are no runners from Pond House today but stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have both picked up outside rides at Huntingdon.

I always look to see if there are any selling or claiming races on the flat and I notice that there is one this afternoon at Lingfield.  The trouble is that it is only over six furlongs and that is no good if you are looking for potential hurdlers.  The flat tracks are clearly missing a trick here - just think of the money they would make if they were to hold a number of middle distance selling or claiming races.

It was so foggy at Clonmel yesterday afternoon that one of the horses was left at the start.  You would think if the visibility were that bad, it would be too dangerous to race, but they continued regardless.  The one that was left was deemed a runner, so you did your money if you backed that one.  In the end they called the last two races off which must have been the right decision.

I see that Matt Chapman has been axed by the Dancing On Ice chiefs at ITV after only one show.  I did say that it was never going to last, but I am sorry for him nonetheless.  I like Matt, but I do still find myself turning the volume down on my television when he comes on.  His agent, Peter Burrell says that he is surprised by the decision, but he must be the only one.  The biggest surprise to me was that he ever landed the gig in the first place.  Still, at least he can go back to what he does best, stirring up the racing establishment!

There is an interesting local football derby as Sheffield United take on Sheffield Wednesday tonight at 7.45pm.  United look worth an interest at 10/11...you heard it here first.

I was surprised to see the Australian Tennis Association invite Maria Sharapova to the draw of the Australian Open and that she deserved the opportunity.  As far as I am concerned, people who have been found guilty of using drug should be banned for life.  The people involved know what they are doing and I am surprised to see the Aussies apparently condoning her actions.

There is a good picture of the Manchester United players watching racing at Meydan last night.  I wonder if they backed any winners?

I went to a general store yesterday...they wouldn't let me buy anything specifically!  Have a nice day...
