This afternoon there are just three meetings taking place with jumps cards from Kempton and Carlisle as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Southwell.  There are no runners from Pond House this afternoon, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore makes the long journey up to Carlisle where he has picked up a couple of decent looking outside mounts.  Kempton have put on some good prize money for a Monday afternoon and they will be disappointed to have a couple of chases that have only attracted two runners.  Indeed, you could have a nice school round and pick up £2,402 and £3,696 - something must be wrong with how these races are framed.

I thought that It's Obvious ran a decent first race for the stable at Wincanton on Saturday, finishing fourth in the novices' hurdle on his first outing for almost 600 days.  He was running on in the closing stages and he looks as though he will benefit from a longer trip in time and he is certainly entitled to improve for the outing and experience.

It was good to see Jimmy Frost on the television at the weekend enjoying a 'proud dad' moment as he welcomed in his daughter Bryony who had just ridden the winner of the Badger Ales Chase.  The winner was owned by the sponsors, so I bet they were chuffed to get their money back!

There was a big statement from James Reveley after riding De Bon Coeur to an easy Grade One success in the Prix Renaud.  He said, "I think she's the best horse I've ever sat on".  Don't forget that James has ridden many winners for French champion trainer Guillaume Macaire and also won the French Champion Hurdle aboard Un Temps Pour Tout.

I watched the Northern Ireland versus Switzerland match at the weekend and it finished in a 0-0 draw.  It means that poor old Northern Ireland miss out on the finals of the World Cup in Russia next summer.  In fairness I thought that Switzerland were the better side on the night.  Italy play Sweden tonight and the Italians are 5/8 to win in 90 minutes and it is live on the box at 7.45pm.

Conor Benn won his 10th fight in America and he looks a decent prospect.  There was no sign of his superstar father Nigel 'The Dark Destroyer' Benn - I wonder if his son will turn out to be as his father?
