There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Leicester, Catterick and Newcastle as well as a jumps fixture from Worcester.  David has one runner today as Kalifourchon (pictured above) makes his debut over fences in the 2m4f handicap at 2.35pm.  He has won over hurdles from a mark of 120 and has twice finished second from this mark over timber already this season.  He starts off over fences from a mark of 118 and with a clear round of jumping he should be thereabouts.  Tom Scudamore takes the ride.

Tom's father, former champion jockey Peter Scudamore has hit out at the ten day ban given to three jockeys at Perth after they failed to respond to stop-race flags.  Stephen Mulqueen said "the first flag I saw was the one after the last fence".  He said when he watched it on television there was a flag at the first in the straight but the flag man was not on the track and they did not see it.  The course did their best to notify the jockeys (there were three flags where there need only have been one to satisfy the rules of racing), but I do agree with Scu that the bans seem a little harsh.  Surely in this day and age we can get a better system in place than a man waving a flag?

I find it hard to believe that Crystal Palace would want out of touch former England manager Roy Hodgson as their new boss.  It certainly doesn't look to be the way forward to me - his last game in charge came when England lost to Iceland in 2016 before he quit.  I wonder what the Palace fans must be thinking?  Meanwhile, my beloved Hammers won 2-0 last night - in fairness the first goal was a bit streaky but they looked like the better side on the night - a nice birthday present for manager Slaven Bilic.  I will be backing Wolves at 17/20 and Sunderland at evens to give me an interest.

Rafa Nadal seems to just go on forever and his win in the US Open at the weekend gave him his 16th Grand Slam title compared to Roger Federer's 19.  Nadal is 31 but is looking better than ever and so long as he keeps his passion for the game I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were to win more Slams and even challenge Federer's total.
