A busy day lies ahead with no fewer than six meetings taking place. There are flat cards from Newbury, Newmarket, Thirsk and Doncaster while there are a couple of jumps fixtures from Bangor and Uttoxeter. David has three runners at Uttoxeter this evening; Monetaire, Abracadabra Sivola and Bambi du Noyer. Monetaire and Abracadabra contest the three mile handicap chase at 6.35pm - Monetaire has run creditably twice at Stratford and Haydock and should go well under Tom Scudamore, while Abracadabra Sivola was a winner on his penultimate start at Taunton and is partnered by winning jockey David Noonan. Bambi du Noyer runs in the 2m4f handicap hurdle at 8.05pm - he ran well last time when fourth at Ffos Las on his debut for the stable and if he gets this longer trip he is not without a chance.
I thought that Dell' Arca ran a cracker at Aintree yesterday when beaten only a length - he looks as though he could do with a slightly stiffer test of stamina these days, while Juste Pour Nous also shaped with promise when third in the novices' hurdle and he looks like a sound buy.
I hope a few of my readers checked out the website yesterday. I gave a favourable mention to Dartmouth who was successful at York - it was a close finish but the rewarding odds of 11/4 offset the heart-stopping finish! Funny enough, I went to Dartmouth last night and had dinner with Martin, Carol and Mrs Barnes. We went to the Floating Bridge and had an excellent meal and the service was fantastic - certainly worth a visit if you are in the area...hopefully that should buy me a round of drinks next time I am in!
The big race of the day is the Group One Lockinge Stakes at Newbury - it could go to the north who are represented by Ribchester and he will certainly appreciate the ground.
It is Jonothan Lower's 50th birthday today. I still remember having to sober him up after riding a treble at Aintree many years ago...those were the days! Apparently he has also just got married again as well, so congratulations on that - a double celebration.
Thought for the day...the same child who won't lift a finger to help around the house is probably the same child who cycles madly off in the pouring rain to spend the morning mucking out in a stable. Have a nice weekend...
