The stable had another nice winner yesterday as Bella (pictured above) won the mares' novices' hurdle at Plumpton with the minimum of fuss under conditional jockey David Noonan. The biggest surprise was that she drifted to 11/10 having been long odds-on in the morning. It sometimes makes you wonder what is going on...it was better than having money in the bank! It was yet another excellent piece of placement by David who has now won three times with the mare and accumulated over £42,000 in prize money with her this season.
There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Ayr and an all-weather flat card from Southwell - David does not have any runners this afternoon which is just as well as he is off to London for the launch of the Grand National weights. It seems more like a jolly-up to me and I am sure there will plenty of food and drink on the go, indeed it would be interesting to see what the trainers weights are after lunch! Of course, I am only jealous. David has seven entered in the Aintree showpiece including the likes of Ballynagour and Soll.
The stable could be heading north in the next couple of days as Impulsive American has entries at Musselburgh tomorrow while Grand National entry Soll is in at Kelso the following day. I would imagine the lorry will be leaving sometime today.
I went out for lunch yesterday with MCP and David as well as old friend Alan Archiband and Harry Redknapp. We went to Rick Stein's brand new restaurant in Poole - it was very nice but very expensive...I didn't realise that we were paying for the new building. There were some great stories from Harry, especially about his time at Upton Park with my beloved Hammers. Harry is just like everyone's best mate and it was a real treat spending some time with him and Alan.
Why is it that most of the geniuses are a sandwich short of a picnic? On this occasion I refer to snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan who refused to take the final black with a red for a 147 (sinking the pink instead for a 146) as he believed the prize money of £10,000 was not enough. If he felt that strongly then perhaps he should have taken the black and given the money to a local charity?
I wonder if they have fixed Anthony Joshua's world title fight just a little bit too soon? He is a tremendous prospect but this is coming very early in his career. Having said that, Joshua is an odds-on shot and these heavy weight champion are not what they used to be...or is it just me living in the past with my rose coloured spectacles on again?!
What is a racehorses' favourite television show? Neigh-bours! Have a nice day and don't forget to take a look at David's blog from 12 noon to see the Grand National weights and David's reaction to them.
