There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat fixtures from Thirsk, Bath and Kempton as well as jumps cards from Perth and Worcester. The stable runs Lady Of Longstone, Flabello and Race To Glory at Worcester. To my mind Race To Glory appears to hold claims in the 5.50pm race - he has bottom weight in this conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle and with Kieron Edgar taking 3lbs off his back he carries only 10-9. Lady Of Longstone (pictured above) was disappointing last time out but had previously run two solid races - she will need to resume her improvement from a mark of 100. Even so, she is still relatively unexposed so a good run is not out of the question.
I was saddened to hear of the death of Kauto Star yesterday. What can you say about a great horse like him? A sad end to the best jumper we are likely to see in our lifetimes and most definitely the best since Arkle.
I see that the Racing Post are reporting that a "Beach Town plays host to future stars". They are of course talking about the Arqana Sales that take place today at Deauville which is right on the northern coast of France. David is over there at present and I'm sure he will be on the lookout for some jumping talent - remember he has purchased Dynaste, Grands Crus, Gevrey Chambertin, Dell' Arca and Vieux Lion Rouge there to name but a few classy individuals, while the stables' French Champion Hurdle winner Un Temps Pour Tout went through the ring there as a two year old.

What on earth is going on at Wimbledon? Four men have made it through to the second round for the first time in nine years, while Heather Watson made it through in the womens' tournament. They have all guaranteed themselves a bumper pay-day regardless of how they fare in the next round.

The big football story involves the sacking of Leicester manager Nigel Pearson for the second time in a year. He did a fantastic job at Leicester and while he might be a handful as a manager, the board were aware of this when they took him on. I would have thought with pre-season training just about to get underway this is the worst time to be sacking your manager. Former Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is among the favourites to get the job but as far as I can tell he has only two ways of getting his team to play - the long ball up the middle or the even longer ball up the middle! Saying that, he will probably suit Leicester...who will that upset?!

I see that Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton is upset that the trophies are not better made. He is so rich, why doesn't he get them made to his own liking?! I think the best trophy he ever had was his former girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger - looking at the pictures of her in today's tabloids, she looks very well put together!

Apparently a joker was asked to leave a pub after walking in naked and trying to order a beer in Woodley, Berkshire...he was a real ale buff!
