It's another day without jump racing and they seem to be becoming more and more regular over the past few weeks.  Today's action comes from Pontefract, Wolverhampton, Musselburgh and Windsor.

The best of the stable's runners over the weekend was Kalifourchon who finished runner-up under the welter burden of 12-5.  Despite not being able to follow-up his success from the previous weekend, I still think this was probably a decent performance from a progressive youngster.  At least Tom Scudamore was on the mark with the success of Theatre Flame for David Bridgwater.  The big race of the day was the Summer Cup which was won in a canter by Shuil Royale from a mark of 130 - our two runners The Package and Ainsi Fideles were both on 147 and were having to concede a lot of weight.

We were joined at the weekend by members of the Texel Sheep Society.  As you can see from the picture above, they put on their own transport and I have to say, they had a great vantage point of the gallops - I might have to suggest to David that we do this for his chief work watcher (me!).  They had great weather for their visit and as well as watching the horses on the gallops they had a tour of the yard including our laboratory, saw some horses loose schooling, swimming - all in all a good day was had by all - even those who had the leg-up on our equicisor!  I guess our visitors are more used to woolly jumpers!

Gordon Elliott paid his first visit to Cartmel at the weekend and left with a winner, Miss Dynamic who scored in the hands of Richard Johnson - he says he likes the track which is a shame for the English trainers!

It is the start of the Wimbledon tennis championships today with reigning champion Novak Djokovic playing Philipp Kohischrelber - now that is a name that could give the umpire a bit of trouble - I think I would just say "Philipp to serve"!  The champion is 4/9 to win in straight sets and looks like a solid odds-on chance to me.  There are ten Brits in the first round - I wonder how many will still be standing by the second round?  I think that Laura Robson should beat Evgenlya Rodina who is not that good on grass and she looks the best bet to make the next round (Andy Murray aside).

Serena Williams is a 7/4 chance to win the ladies' championship and that looks like a sound investment given that there are only a couple of players out there capable of giving her a run for her money.  Only recently she won the French Open despite suffering from a severe bout of flu (apparently).

There is a great picture of Sam Billings the Kent and England cricketer who managed to forget his sunscreen.  His face and chest are bright red and he looks like a lobster - you would have thought that one of his team mates would have given him some sun block.

Only ten fans turned up in Los Angeles to greet Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as he began his new career at MLS - you would have thought he would have Kopped a better reception than that!

A 30 stone grizzly bear gatecrashed a party in Pennsylvania, USA - he must have thought it was a teddy bear's picnic.
