Following eight inches of snow, Lingfield has been forced to abandon it's all-weather fixture this afternoon.  Ironically the meeting was intended to be a replacement fixture to make up for the recent abandonments owing to the inclement weather.  So there you have it, all-weather racing is all-weather racing so long as it isn't snowing.  I have been going on about the fact that we have had no snow in my home town of Brixham - well, you should never count your chickens!  I woke up this morning and when I looked out of the window, there was snow everywhere.  On the plus side, it is the only time my garden ever looks tidy!  Unsurprisingly, both Exeter and Sandown have been abandoned ahead of tomorrow.

There were loads of non-runners at yesterday's all-weather fixture at Kempton.  In fact there were fourteen horses and three jockeys that failed to get to the track.  The ground staff did a good job for the meeting to go ahead at all following temperatures that reached -7°c.

I cannot believe that former trainer Martin Tate is 87 today.  In the early days Martin was a great help to MCP - I can tell you that he was a very shrewd man and certainly knew the time of day.  Many happy returns Martin!

I was looking through the markets for the next Test match with interest and was amazed by some of the prices that the bookmakers have come up with.  It is 4/1 that any batsman can beat Cook's total of 235 - that looks like terrible value to me, meanwhile it is 12/1 that there is another hat-trick bowled.  Hat-tricks are quite unusual in any form of cricket, so both odds looks miserly to me.
