It was a worthwhile trip up to the north of the country when the stable had two winners from three runners at Wetherby yesterday. I Shot The Sheriff made a very impressive debut for the yard when winning the novices' hurdle in good style under Tom Scudamore, beating 123 rated Liberty's Gift by nine lengths. I am not sure that the runner-up ran to that sort of mark, but ours is clearly a useful prospect and should be more than capable of adding to his tally. African Broadway was our other winner on the card as he made a successful chase debut in the 3m1f beginners' chase. He jumped well in the main, stayed on well and will have learnt plenty from this experience.

It seems as though Wetherby have managed to escape the worst of the rain and they are giving their official going this afternoon as good/soft. We make the long trip up north with three runners - I Shot The Sheriff, African Broadway and Katchmore (pictured above). I Shot The Sheriff looks like an interesting hurdling debutant as he makes his first start for the team at Pond House, while African Broadway had some useful form over hurdles last season and now makes his chasing debut - Tom Scudamore rides them both. Katchmore carries plenty of weight in the handicap hurdle but he has been in good form, winning at Ffos Las on his penultimate start and he will be partnered by Tom Bellamy who takes a useful 7lbs off his back. There are three other meetings on this afternoon, all of them on the flat at Nottingham, Kempton and Lingfield

Following the abandonment of Newcastle's fixture this afternoon due to waterlogging, we are left with three other meetings on the level at Leicester and Wolverhampton and over the sticks at Huntingdon. Unsurprisingly the going looks like it is going to be pretty testing at the turf meetings and the stable has one runner at Huntingdon. Weekend Millionair (pictured above winning at Ffos Las last season) has his first start for 159 days in the 2m4 1/2f novices' hurdle and he sets a good standard on his close third in a decent Punchestown contest last time. He should handle the going and will be partnered by Tom Scudamore.

It looks like being a bit of a quiet day with just three flat meetings taking place at Windsor, Salisbury and Musselburgh and the ground looks like it is going to be pretty testing at each track. There was some decent action yesterday at Ffos Las and you have to ask, how good was A P McCoy? I am not convinced that any other jockey could have won aboard Very Stylish or American Legend - he was a man inspired yesterday. While we are on the subject of yesterday's action, one to keep an eye on appears to be Keppols Hill - he would certainly have won had he jumped the last...he really clattered it and in the end was only beaten a short head. He looks like a winner waiting to happen.

Following all the drama of yesterday's action, today there are just two meetings on the flat at Goodwood and over the sticks at Ffos Las and the stable does not have any runners. Both courses are giving their ground as soft which will be fine for the jumpers, but the boys on the flat could struggle to get home in the testing conditions.

It looks like being another good day to be sat in front of the telly (for a change!)...it's miserable outside and there is some top quality racing being televised from Newmarket and York on the flat, plus a non-televised all-weather card at Wolverhampton and jumps cards at Chepstow and Hexham over jumps. The stable has four runners in the Cesarewitch at 3.35pm at Newmarket this afternoon, Ashbrittle (D Cannon), Beyond (C Hoban), Martial Law (K O'Neill) and Decoy (Hayley Turner). With thirty six runners it is bound to be a bit of a cavalry charge, even though they have the marathon trip of 2m2f to contend with. David has filled the frame twice in recent years with Mamlook and he will be looking to emulate his dad who won it with Miss Fara and Heros Fatal. Whoever wins today, they will certainly need to have found a bit of luck in running.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon, with three on the flat at York, Bath and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps card at Carlisle. The stable goes all the way up to Carlisle with just one runner, Big Occasion who makes his chasing debut in quite a warm looking novices' chase under Tom Scudamore. Big Occasion's long suit is stamina and he certainly won't mind the soft ground - Carlisle is a stiff track at the best of times so in testing conditions you are going to need to stay very well. We also have a runner on the level at Bath this afternoon as Vergririo competes in the one mile handicap at 12.30pm - Simon Pearce takes the ride.
