Jaipaletemps & Rian Corcoran 2x Winners at Ffos Las
It has been a good week for the yard with three winners on the board and an excellent third from Phantomofthepoints in the big stayer’s hurdle at Haydock over the weekend. Jaipaletemps won for the second time at Ffos Las and in doing so gave Rian Corcoran his second professional winner. He has formed a good partnership with our six-year-old for two wins in ten days and while it wasn’t quite as plain sailing as for the first victory, he was well on top at the line and it was a good performance carrying a penalty. Jaipaletemps has relished the soft ground of late and while life will be tougher off his new handicap mark he seems in very good heart and there still is hopefully room for a bit more improvement now he has got the hang of the British style of racing. He does have an entry at Uttoxeter on Thursday this week but we will see what the ground is and what the race looks like before deciding plans.
It was an across the card double for the team on Friday with winners at Ascot and Chepstow and it was very nearly a treble with Turenne just losing out by a head in a photo finish at Catterick. That was a very pleasing stable debut from our three-year-old and he will be seen to better effect on a more galloping track but it was a likeable performance.
Neon Moon was given a superb ride by Harry Cobden and to be honest he never looked like winning throughout the entire race until approaching the last fence! He dropped back in trip to 2m5f and seemed to be in top gear from the word go but Harry kept him in the race without hassling him and then it was stamina that won the day as his rivals began to tire up the home straight. Neon Moon has been a fantastic horse for us and Brocade racing over the years and was winning for the ninth time in his career (once was an Irish point to point) Now nine years of age he comes back in each year and wins a nice race when he is at the right handicap mark. There are no immediate plans for him and we will see what the handicapper does with him on Tuesday.
No Walkover made a winning debut in the bumper at Chepstow with Conor O’Farrell in the saddle. He was keen enough in a steadily run affair which did not really suit but what was particularly nice to see was how he quickened and battled inside the final two furlongs. He will be much better in a stronger run race and we will run him again in a similar contest carrying a penalty in a few weeks’ time. He is a smashing four-year-old with lots of potential and with the horse that just beat him in an Irish point to point winning on his debut at Warwick last week, the form looks strong and they are two very nice prospects.
Parchment ran well below expectations at Kempton on Monday. While nothing immediately came to light after the race we know this run can be put in the category of too bad to be true. We will see how he is in the coming days.
This Week
We have two runners at Hereford on Tuesday, Harley’s Pride and Indulto Rouge. Harley’s Pride is making her hurdling debut after running okay in two bumpers, once in Ireland and once for us last season. She was doing all her best work at the finish of her Southwell Bumper and so this 2m3f hurdle looks a good start for her jumping career. Indulto Rouge makes his professional debut in the concluding bumper on the card. He was the impressive winner of his only start in an Irish point to point and does everything nicely at home.
Our next runners after this are likely to be on Thursday where we have entries at three different meetings. Jaipaletemps, River Run Free and Saccary are our trio of entries at Uttoxeter while Gold in the Rivers could head back to Lingfield where he finished second on chasing debut last time although he does have an entry at Bangor at the weekend as well. Bashful Boy could have his first run over hurdles in well over a year a little close to home at Taunton.
Friday will be a blank day on the runner’s front but on Saturday we are likely to be at two meetings, Bangor and Newbury where Kingston Queen is an intended runner in the mare’s novices hurdle on the card. The form of her win at Chepstow on hurdling debut has been boosted with the runner up winning nicely at Ascot the other days and she seems in good form at home. Thanksforthehelp also has an entry on the same card while at Bangor, Eton Mes, Gold in the Rivers and Royal Mer are our trio of entries. Activist and Gentleman Toboot have entries at Leicester on Sunday so keep checking the Daily News on the website for all the latest information on the stable runners.
Rian Corcoran Progression
Rian has now ridden three winners in less than two weeks and has firmly set the ball rolling on his professional career. With two wins on board our own Jaipaletemps, he rode a winner for Kayley Woollacott at Wincanton on Thursday. He has two more winners left until he loses is ten-pound claim so I am hoping to capitalise on this in the next week or two. He is riding well with confidence which is nice to see.
Dunsmore Point to Point
There was good local point to point on Sunday at Dunsmore, not too far from us and all of our jockeys were in action. James Saw did best with a second and while there was no joy for either Martin McIntyre or Ashley Dascombe this time, they are all home in one piece and can look forward to Larkhill next weekend. We have Ben Lilly set to run between the flags shortly and he could make his debut in this sphere at Wadebridge next month.
