Well Grand National fever is over for another year and it is back down to earth today with just two meetings from Ffos Las and Market Rasen.  The stable has two runners at Ffos Las, Thomas Junior and Tullyesker Hill.  Thomas Junior has shown a consistent level of form this season, reaching the frame on every start without getting his head in front.  He has the form to win a maiden hurdle of this nature so hopefully his consistency will be rewarded with success this afternoon.  Tullyesker Hill (pictured above) is already a winner this season and is another who looks to hold sound claims - Tom Scudamore rides the pair.

It's a bit like the day after the Lord Mayors Show now that Aintree is over.  It's just a shame that Cheltenham and Aintree are so close together - almost the entire focus of the trainers' season revolves around these two meetings so to have them within a few weeks of each other doesn't make an awful lot of sense.  It sounds like David could be sending one or two out to Punchestown at the end of the month - a number of the staff have already put their names forward for the trip...things could get messy!  I was invited out to Ireland by a few of the punters at Aintree who said, 'it's a great craic'.  I wonder what they mean by that?  I have been out there before and plenty of Guinness goes down the old Gregory Peck!

Tom Scudamore is on the verge of his maiden century - I hope he doesn't struggle like so many cricketers do when they get into the nervous 90's.  Tom has ridden better than ever this season and is currently sixth in the jockeys' championship and has accumulated over £1.5million in prize money.

I'm sure my long suffering wife will be delighted that I am home from Liverpool and normal service is resumed.  I will be sat in front of the television this afternoon and will not be letting go of the remote until after Everton have played Arsenal - the kick off is at 1.30pm!

It's the boat race this evening at 5.55pm - now correct me if I am wrong, but years ago when I was a kid this was a big deal.  Like so many sports now, including racing and snooker, it just does not get the same sort of coverage these days.
