After the first day of Aintree's Crabbies Grand National fixture, it is good to see David at the top of the trainers table for the meeting with a winner, a second and a third.  Doctor Harper (pictured above) won the three mile handicap hurdle in good fashion and the step up in trip seemed to bring about a bit more improvement.  In winning this he took his record to an enviable six successes from nine starts and is a most progressive horse.  He should continue to flourish and will make a smashing staying chaser in time.  Dynaste performed creditably once again - he looked likely to win approaching the last but was just beaten by Silviniaco Conti, while Western Warhorse was not disgraced to finish third in the Mildmay.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with the second day at Aintree the obvious highlight.  There is another jumps meeting taking place at Sedgefield, while there are two flat cards from Leicester and Wolverhampton.  The stable has four runners at Liverpool today - Baltimore Rock, Ballynagour, Poole Master and Standing Ovation.  Ballynagour was probably the easiest winner of the entire Cheltenham Festival when he won the Byrne Group Plate in a canter and he takes a deserved step into Grade One company this afternoon.  He has had well documented problems meaning that he has a very in and out profile, but a top form Ballynagour would hold sound claims again today.

DEP_pjsIf anyone has seen Ashley Farrant or Gerry Supple wandering around Liverpool, could they please stand them up and point them in the direction of the racecourse!  David said that they could be up all night...I daren't think what state they are going to be in.  I was woken with a fright this morning when I saw David (pictured right)in his PJ's - talk about bananas in pyjamas...

I'm pleased to say that we did get a bed for the night afterall as our landlord for the next few days Gino, had a winner with The New One.  That means he is in great form, the only problem is that we have had to watch the race about fifty times already!  It was a close run thing however, so we nearly had to find a park bench for the night.

It is Ladies' day at Aintree today and that is always my favourite of the three days for obvious reasons.  There will be plenty of bright orange women with next to no clothes on...there are definitely worse ways of spending a Friday afternoon!  Away from the racing, there is a fashion competition taking place today where the winner gets the use of a car for a year - I can still remember when a fella won it...perhaps our trainer should enter?!
