There are three meetings taking place this afternoon, a jumps meeting at Market Rasen and two all-weather flat cards at Lingfield and Southwell.  The prize money on the all-weather is an absolute joke with eight races being run for £34,000 at Southwell and seven races for £30,000 at Lingfield.  As far as I am concerned this is the main reason why owners will leave racing - there is just not a good enough return on their outlay.

The stable has one runner today in the 2m5f handicap hurdle at Market Rasen, Too Generous (pictured above) who will be partnered by Mikey Ennis who claims 7lbs off her back.  She will certainly handle these testing conditions having won on heavy ground in the past and the drop back in trip should prove beneficial.  Later on the card I see there is a horse running called Benefit Cut...now that would upset a few people!

I thought that Barton Stacey ran another solid race to finish second in the three mile handicap hurdle at Southwell.  He was only beaten a couple of lengths and I would have thought that a reproduction of this sort of effort will see him winning something similar before too long.

I was pleased to see young conditional jockey Kieron Edgar was successful aboard an outside ride at Southwell yesterday afternoon.  Kieron won aboard Anay Turge for former Grand National winning jockey Nigel Hawke and he is one to keep in mind over the coming days as he looks to be very well handicapped at present.

Rumours have it that world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather lost $10.4 million on the Superbowl on Sunday night having backed the defeated Denver Broncos.  It hasn't been confirmed as everyone is too scared to ask him!

I did my money last night (although not as much as Mayweather!) when I backed Manchester City to beat Chelsea.  Chelsea won the match 1-0 and it was good to see Mourinho smiling again although I don't think I have ever seen so many shots hit the woodwork!  It looks like a wide open Premier League although I think I will still side with Manchester City.

I see boxer Vladimir Klitscho will fight Alex Leapai on 26th April.  Years ago I would have known all of these challengers, although I haven't heard of most of them these days.  As far as I'm concerned it was better when you had the likes of Clay, Frazier and Foreman...or am I just getting old?  Must have my rose tinted spectacles on again this morning!

Why is it that you get these idiots walking the sea walls during storms?  All they do through their stupidity is put the lives of those people that have to rescue them at risk.  Close to home, I see that the sea road at Torquay has been closed as there are massive waves coming down on top of it.  The place is littered with seaweed and rubbish this morning.
