On the Way to the Gallops

Today we have six meetings, five on the flat at Haydock, Ascot, Kempton, Thirsk and Wolverhampton plus a jumps card at Stratford.  David does not have any runners today but The Tracey Shuffle runs at Fontwell tomorrow.  Watch out for the ground at any of the weekend meetings as there is rain about!  The going is currently good to soft at Haydock and more rain is forecast.  This could change the results after the ground has been much quicker over much of the summer.  At Haydock there is a Group 1 contest at 3.50pm and Lethal Force runs.  The race looks tricky and I am lookng forward to watching it.  Meanwhile the work continues at home and the large majority of our horses are back from their summer breaks and cantering on the gallops.  They seem to be well and the count down can begin to the start of the 'proper' jumps racing!  Over the coming days we shall be putting on a few photos from the gallops so make sure you look out for your favourites!

In the football, England beat Moldova last night 4-0.  Danny Welbeck scored two goals but got booked for kicking the ball away and now misses the crucial match against the Ukraine on Tuesday.  The manager Roy Hodgson was fuming at the ref but maybe he should be having a go at Welbeck as it was not the ref who kicked the ball away!  I did say to have a few quid on Macedonia to beat Wales and they did 2-1.  Scotland were beaten 2-0 at home to Belgium and Northern Ireland lost at home to Portugal 4-2.  The Republic of Ireland also lost at home to Sweden so it was not the best of nights for our small Island!

I see Arsenal have launched an inquiry into academy coach Mark Arber who bet on the signing of Mesot Ozil.  He had 14/1 and I wish he told me about the signing although it does look like we will get into trouble for this!

I see Derbyshire beat somerset by two wickets in the cricket at Taunton yesterday.  It does not look good for the cider drinkers at the moment and even the support of our stable could not help!

Lastly I just wanted to say a couple of Happy Borthday's for today!  Happy birthday to friend Grant Casey and Happy 17th birthday to Kieren Buckley.  Kieren is eldest son to head lad Eddie and rides out here at weekends as he has just started college.  Watch out on the roads everybody!
