It was another good weekend for the yard with David cleaning up in both divisions of the bumper at Exeter yesterday afternoon.  Despite a number of defections it was still a good performance from Vieux Lion Rouge to defy a double penalty in good style - he is clearly an exciting prospect, while The Liquidator never looked to be in any danger as he won the closing race.

I thought that Swing Bowler ran an absolute screamer in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday - the winner, My Tent Or Yours looks to be Champion Hurdle class so if he turns up in one of the novices' events at next months Cheltenham Festival he must be some sort of a good thing.  Waterunder finished a close fourth at Warwick conceding weight to his rivals and a step-up in trip could prove beneficial, while His Excellency ran on from a long way back to be beaten only 3/4 length in the Grade 2 novices' chase, picking up nearly £9,000 for his efforts.

David moved into third place in the trainers championship at the weekend, demoting Donald McCain Jr.  The championship is decided by prize money won, but I still think that it should be done by winners trained, in the same way in which the jockeys' title is decided by winners ridden.  If this were the case though, McCain would be at the top of the table with 112 winners.

Sadly due to waterlogging Plumpton has been abandoned this morning following an inspection.  That leaves us with action from Catterick over the sticks and a flat card at Wolverhampton on the all-weather.

On the football front, it looks as though Robin van Persie has won the Premiership for Manchester United, while veteran Ryan Giggs was star of the match yesterday as they beat Everton.  With City suffering a surprise defeat the Premiership looks to be well and truly over for another year.

I have been told that there is some sort of rugby competition on at the moment and that England beat Ireland 12-6 at the weekend.  When the players go into a scrum my wife asks 'what are they whispering about?' - not a big sport in the Barnes household.

There are lots of fellows these days with at B.A, M.A. or P.H.D - unfortunately there is still lots who aren't interested in getting a J.O.B!
