It was a successful trip upto Kelso yesterday as War Singer began to fulfill some of the promise he has shown by winning the opening handicap hurdle under Tom Scudamore. Tom sensibly sat off a brisk early pace and picked his rivals off one at a time without ever really having to get too serious with him. He looked to win with a fair bit in hand and created a favourable impression here. Midnight Tuesday ran creditably in third in the intermedisate hurdle, conceding weight to the first two home while our consistent seven year old Bathwick Man again ran well at Huntingdon when fourth (beaten less than two lengths) in the handicap hurdle.
What a race the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe turned out to be yesterday! I backed the runner-up, Japanese trained Orfevre and was counting my money as he struck for home. He swept past the winner turning into the straight and seemed to idle in front to get collared close home. My mates (who are talking through their pockets) reckon the jockey was to blame, but I didn't think that Christophe Soumillon (who afterall has won the Arc in the past) did too much wrong.

I hate to admit it, but Arsenal looked very good as they completely outplayed my beloved West Ham to register a 3-1 victory...I guess we still have some work to do. Don't tell my friend Tony, but Manchester United also looked pretty good as they disposed of Newcastle, while Liverpool still cannot score any goals at home - I wonder if Andy Carroll might be on his way back in January?!
On a positive note I was successful with my football and cricket bets so I hope that you also enjoyed a profitable weekend.
