Today’s racing fixtures have already taken a hit with the abandonments of Kelso and Stratford and it could get worse if Uttoxeter does not pass its 7.30am inspection.  The track did look yesterday afternoon when it was race able so fingers crossed it might go ahead.  It would be the sole surviving jumps cards in Britain, but the stable does not have any runners.  There are two all-weather flat cards at Kempton and Chelmsford and in Ireland their only racing is a flat card at the Curragh but that must pass a morning inspection as well.  Looking a little further afield there is quite a good jumps meeting in France at Auteuil.

There is jumps racing today at Musselburgh but Fontwell had to pass a 7.30am inspection for racing to go ahead this morning, but unfortunately it's not passed their inspection and has been abandoned.  There was due to be jumping at Wetherby but that has already been called off also.  I thought it was funny yesterday, Southwell were inspecting in the morning but passed and racing went ahead with no problems.  Warwick weren’t planning any inspection, but got more overnight rain than predicted and had to abandon!  Sean Bowen switched from there to Southwell and had a winning while Harry Cobden had no luck with his three rides yesterday.  Gearoid Harney made the journey to Clonmel yesterday, but unfortunately was abandoned also!

Hopefully there are two jumps meetings today at Southwell and Warwick, I say hopefully as Southwell must pass a 7.30am inspection.  The stable does not have any runners today.  There are two jumps meetings in Ireland at Naas and Clonmel.  Clonmel must pass a 7.30am inspection as well but I think they are quite confident as jockey Gearoid Harney has been in touch with the clerk of the course.

It is a pretty quiet day on the racing front today with just the one jumps meeting at Catterick and one flat meeting on the all-weather at Kempton.  Catterick does have to pass an 8am inspection however.  There is no racing in Ireland and the stable does not have any runners.  There was originally scheduled to be a jumps fixture today at Sedgefield but that was called off well in advance as the track is not ready to race.  It was also supposed to be Nottingham’s first flat meeting of 2024 but that was called off because of waterlogging and the weather isn’t set to dry up much for the rest of this week at least – it must be the school holidays or something!

  Phantomofthepoints Winner at Chepstow

It was a lovely first win over hurdles yesterday for Phantomofthepoints at Chepstow. His task was made a little easier by the early departure of the favourite, but it was an impressive performance and his rival would’ve had to run to his handicap mark or more to have beaten our gelding anyway I think. He looked much happier from a very early stage compared to Hexham last time and was left in the lead when the favour departed. He jumped very well and pulled well clear up the home straight.
