Swimming at Pond House
We opend our doors to the Thoroughbred Breeders Associtaion yesterday and welcomed about 50 members for a tour of the yard and to watch the gallops. We had a very enjoyable morning, meeting old friends and making many news ones which culminated in lunch down at the local Culm Valley pub. They witnessed a parade of horses, looked round the yard as well as viewing some horses loose schooling, going on the treadmill and swimming before watching third lot on the gallops.

Problema Tic - runs at Perth
There are five race meetings on today, the over the sticks at Perth, Taunton and Southwell plus flat cards at Epsom and Catterick. David runs Problema Tic up at Perth in the 5.00pm hndicap chase. He ran okay up at Ayr on his latest start over hurdles and is dropping down the weights but does have to step up on form on recent runs to take a hand in the finish. We have sent travelling head lad Craig Wylie to Scotland as he will understand what the locals are saying, am not talking about you Sean! Keep the Cash is our only other runner of the day but he is running a bit closer to home, at Taunton, in the 5.25pm race, the second race on the card of their evening meeting. He does have to improve on recent form to figure in this race and young Michael Heard is on board.

Too Generous runs at Ludlow today
May I start by saying congratulations to Tom Scu who got his two winners at Market Rasen yesterday to make it to 100 winners for the season. Western Diva was winner 99 and Gifted Leader for Ian Williams brought up his first ever 100. Western Diva wa very impressive on her hurdling debut. Despite being keen she quickened away nicely, appreciating the step up in distance. She enjoyed the better ground and hopefully she can build on this promising effort in the future. I like Tom's honesty after the race, he said "the last time I gave Roger Brookhouse advice I told hom not to run Western Warhorse in the Arkle!" I think Tom is riding better than ever - it must be Lottie's influence!

Good luck today Tom Scu!
It is a busy Easter Bank holiday on the racing front with seven meetings on around the country today. There are five over the jumps at Plumpton, Chepstow, Fakenham, Market Rasen and Huntingdon. there are also two flat cards at Redcar and Yarmouth so hopefully there is a day out near you if you fancy a day at the races. David just has the one runner at Market Rasen this afternoon, Western Diva. She runs in the first race, the 1.45pm with Tom Scu in the saddle. Poor Tom is still looking for two more winners so he can reach that magical 100 winners for the season. Jonjo O'Neill has the favourite of the race, Kelvingrove and he won nicely at Stratford on his jumping debut. He will be tough to beat but Western Diva has shown enough in her bumper runs that she is capable of winning a race like this. Her latest fourth at Towcester subsequently looks good as the winner of this then went on to win the big bumper at Aintree. She has schooled nicely at home so it would be great if we could get Tom off to a good start for the day. Tom also has rides for Emma Lavelle and Steve Gollings so fingers crossed he might be able to have a winner or two this afternoon!

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon - a flat card at Musselburgh and two National Hunt fixtures at Plumpton and Towcester. The stable has one runner at Plumpton; Dan Breen who takes his chance in the Sussex Champion Hurdle. Our nine year old (pictured above) is well-treated on old form, the trouble is that he hasn't been in such good form of late. If you could turn the clock back a couple of years to when he was in the frame of top handicaps such as the Ladbroke, he would win this from his present mark...let's hope for a renaissance this afternoon.

It is a bumper day of action with no less than six meetings taking place - three on the flat at Bath, Kempton and Nottingham and a jumps card at Carlisle, Haydock and Newton Abbot. Tom Scu heads north to Haydock in search of those elusive two winners that will give him his maiden century. He rides Shotavodka, Heath Hunter and Vif Argent for the stable and thile they have chances, they are very competitive looking races. Shotavodka (pictured above) competes in the £50,000 handicap and unsurprisingly, it is well contested. I think the faster ground will suit him and his form with Holywell from earlier in the season reads well now. It is owner Jane Gerard-Pearse's birthday too, so let's hope that she is celebrating a birthday winner. There is a meeting at Newton Abbot as well, but very unusually there are no runners from Pond House at the Devon track.

It's Good Friday and for the first time we will be able to go racing. There is no action over the jumps, although there is an extremely valuable fixture on the all-weather at Lingfield and a turf card at Musselburgh. Does racing on Good Friday make any difference? I guess we will see if the £1million prize money up for grabs draws a big crowd - I certainly hope so for the organisers sake, otherwise it will be one large (and expensive) damp squib. I would imagine the biggest crowd of the day will be in Lambourn where they are hosting their annual Open Day. Crowds of around 10,000 are expected to show up, so if flat racing is not your thing why not check out the Open Day?
