Night Edition - Second at Cheltenham

David has one runner on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival and that is Poker Play in the Opening race, the 2m4f Novices chase.  He looks to have it all to do on the ratings but stranger things have happened, anyone remember Western Warhorse winning the Arkle?  He has had a wind operation since he last ran in January and seems in good form at home.  This is his optimum trip and he won't mind conditions.  No older horse than seven has won the race and Willie Mullins has landed the prize four times.  There will not be a dry eye in the house if Faugheen can win but hopefully Poker Play can put up a good show under Tom Scu and who knows where he can finish.

Israel Champ - runs in the Champion Bumper

We move onto Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival and David has three runners today.  Night Edition runs in the 4.50pm Boodles juvenile handicap hurdle with Tom Scudamore on board.  He goes off a mark of 133 which looks fair enough for what he has achieved but this is a very competitive handicap.  He was second at the track in a juvenile contest in January and although everyone was questioning the form he backed this good run up with an easy win at Ludlow last time.  He could not have done it any easier the last day and the truth is we do not know how good he really is.  He has done nothing but improve with each of his three starts over hurdles and while you can say he needs to improve again to figure in this race there is no reason why he cannot.  He looks a good each way shout at 16/1.

    Nordic Combined winner at Taunton
It was great to get our 63rd jumps winner of the year yesterday at Taunton courtesy of Nordic Combined.  It was a case of 13th time lucky over hurdles for our six year old.  It was a fine positive ride from Fergus Gillard and the blinkers seemed to do the trick.  He had some very good placed form over hurdles to date but it had become a little frustrating he had not managed got his head in front yet over jumps.  It was lovely for his owners Chris and David Stam who have been very patient.  Hopefully he can build on this going forward and we might look to run him next week under a penalty with Haydock and Newbury on the radar.

It's Cheltenham Eve!  But first things first, there is the small matter of racing today and amazingly it all goes ahead despite more rain over the weekend.  There are jumps cards from Plumpton, Stratford and Taunton as well as a couple of all-weather flat fixtures from Kempton and Wolverhampton.  David runs Grumpy Charley at Stratford and Yaa Salaam (pictured above), Nordic Combined and Shoot To Fame at Taunton.  The ground is going to be very testing at both meetings, especially at Taunton where the official going is given as heavy.

It is Cheltenham eve eve and it is very much the calm before the storm with just two meetings taking place this afternoon.  The action comes from Warwick where there is a jumps card, whilst over at Southwell they host a mixed card, although it is only mixed in terms of code...there are flat and jumps races but all runners are partnered by lady jockeys.  There are some excellent jockeys among them too with Bryony Frost, Lucy Alexander, Hayley Turner and Hollie Doyle just some of the names in action.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today and Tom Scudamore also takes the day off.  David Noonan heads off to Warwick where he has one outside ride.

Following the abandonment of Sandown this afternoon there are four meetings taking place this afternoon.  The action comes from Ayr and Hereford over the jumps and Chelmsford City and Wolverhampton on the all-weather.  David has one runner today as Buster Edwards contests the staying handicap hurdle at Hereford at 2.55pm.  He has done really well this season, winning on three occasions and consequently is on a career high handicap mark.  Even so, he remains in good form and ran well in defeat from this mark last time.  He jumps and stays well and should be bang there again under David Noonan.

                        ***UPDATE***
                   SANDOWN HAVE NOW
          ABANDONED SATURDAY’S FIXTURE

Sadly Sandown have had to abandon their meeting today due to waterlogging.  Hopefully by calling off today's fixture they will at least have a chance of salvaging tomorrow's card which features several valuable contests, not least the Imperial Cup.  We will know whether that can go ahead after the precautionary inspection that takes place at midday today.  That leaves us with three meetings today; a jumps card from Ffos Las and two all-weather flat cards from Chelmsford City and Wolverhampton.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today.
