There are no runners from Pond House today but they race over jumps at Ludlow and there are two all-weather meetings at New Astor and Lingfield. We actually had just the one entry for Ludlow today, Neon Moon who could have possibly ran in the 3.00pm handicap chase over three miles. We decided to wait for a bit longer with our fella but it looks a competitive race with seven runners and Annsam head the market at 5/2 but it looks a fairly open little contest.

On Saturday, Make Me A Believer ran okay at Uttoxeter to be fourth. A made a few jumping errors on the way round which did not help his cause but I thought it was a slight improvement on his previous chase starts. He jumped the last fence in third but unfortunately just lost out to a rival on the short run in. Fingers crossed he seems to have come out of the race okay and hopefully he can run again in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, Last Quarter did not cover himself in glory in race. He can be good or bad and Saturday was definitely bad!! The writing however was very on the wall from literally the first fence he did not jump or travel literally from the off. Last time out at Ffos Las he traveled and jumped superbly but this time around he did not want to know. He has ability but a lot depends on what mood he is in on race day. We do lots of different things with him at home to try to keep him mentally sweet, he goes out with the hounds and up on Culmstock beacon but we will have to try something different again!

I can’t say I got much enjoyment from watching my team, Manchester United yesterday either!! They were pretty poor away to Newcastle and they had a deserved 2-0 loss and Newcastle moved up to third in the league. Manchester City beat Liverpool on Saturday while Arsenal also won and continue to look good at the top of the table. Leicester lost to Crystal Palace and as a result their manager, Brendan Rogers got the sack. Another manager who got the sack is Chelsea’s Graham Potter. Chelsea lost 2-0 to Aston Villa on Saturday evening. There is one Premiership game this evening, Everton are at home to Spurs at 8pm.

While there was no local point to pointing over the weekend after the meetings were abandoned due to water logging some fixtures did take place more up country.  I must say a quick well done to former inmate Buster Edwards and connections as he was a winner on Saturday. Still in the same ownership as when he was at Pond House he originally picked up an injury and they nursed him back to full health and it is great to hear he won in their colours again.

Yesterday was the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. It was a hectic race to say the least! With three restarts and a chaotic start in the first sector with only four laps to go, meant that the FIA stewards had to make the decision to have a rolling start behind the safety car in the positions they were in before. Carlos Sainz got a five second time penalty for causing a collision with Fernando Alonso which meant that he was positioned forth but finished twelfth. After an interesting race the final results were: first Max Verstappen, second Lewis Hamilton and third Fernando Alonso.

This evening, I am one of the members of the Pipe quiz team as we take part in the Racing Welfare organised West Country event. Last time we took part we actually won, so we will see how we get on this evening!!

My dogs name is Minton. Today he ate my shuttlecock….Bad Minton!!!! Happy Monday!
