Panic Attack at Huntingdon

Today we have two runners at Cheltenham and three at Uttoxeter.  Panic Attack and Sizing Pottsie run at Prestbury Park while Royal Mer, Via Dante and Barrier Peaks are our trio of runners at Uttoxeter.  Panic Attack runs in the 12.10pm novices handicap chase with Tom Scu on board.  She won nicely on chasing debut at Huntingdon two starts back and arguably ran her best race to date at Kempton last time over Christmas.  She is a lovely big mare you has taken to chasing well and I think there is more improvement to come.  She has won at Cheltenham before over hurdles and races today off a mark of 130.  It looks a hot race but I think she has a cracking each way chance at about 11/1.

Sizing Pottsie runs in the rescheduled Clarence House chase at 1.20pm with Tom Scu in the saddle once again.  Things haven’t quite panned out as we had hoped after a winning stable debut for us for one reason or another this season.  He really wants heavy ground and we have not had any of that for his races as yet.  It would have been ideal for him at Lingfield last weekend but as we know that was abandoned!  It will be tough for him today and we are just hoping to pick up as much prize money as possible.  He ideally wants softer ground but he is ready for a run and hopefully he can do his best.

Royal Mer makes his stable debut in the opening handicap hurdle at 12.15pm at Uttoxeter with Jamie Brace in the saddle.  This will be a first ride for the stable for Jamie, he is based with Jonjo O’Neill and having a good season.  This race is for conditional jockeys who have not ridden 20 winners and so we do not have anyone ‘in-house’ eligible to ride.  Royal Mer was claimed by his owner from France, like Jilaijone who won on stable debut.  He has improved with each of his starts in France and finished second last time.  He has improved and strengthened since he arrived and shows a good attitude at home on the gallops.  While I think he may appreciate further in time, it looks a good starting point today with the ground going to be testing which he should like, off a mark of 103.

The David Pipe Racing Club has two runners on the Uttoxeter card and the first of these is Via Dante in the first division of the maiden hurdle at 12.47pm.  He has run okay in two starts in novice hurdles to date without troubling the judge and it is likely to be a similar story today.  Barrier Peaks hopefully has a great chance in the concluding handicap hurdle on the card at 4.17pm.  He won nicely at Exeter last time and although the handicapper has put him up ten pounds we hope he is still well treated.  The horse he beat last time has come out and won since, he will like the ground and hopefully he can win!  Fergus Gillard rides both Racing Club horses.

They have a Bumper nine race card at Cheltenham this afternoon with top class action to keep us entertained throughout.  There are then sales after racing as well which David will be attending.  There is also a good jumps card at Doncaster alongside Uttoxeter while there are also flat cards at Lingfield and Kempton.  In Ireland they race over jumps at Fairyhouse.  A non-stop day of action and that is even before we talk about the football – FA Cup weekend!  The first games kick off at 12.30pm and there are lots during the afternoon before Manchester United kick off at home to Reading at 8pm.  Last night Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0.

Three years ago my doctor told me I was going deaf.  I haven’t heard from him since!  Have a good Saturday!
