There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Uttoxeter, a flat fixture from Pontefract and all-weather action from Chelmsford.  David has two runners at Uttoxeter today; Free Chakarte and El Paso Wood.  Free Chakarte (pictured above) is the first of those as she contests the juvenile hurdle at 1.20pm.  She has made a good start to her hurdling career, winning first time at Hexham and finishing in the frame on her next three starts.  With no Mucuna in the line-up, she looks sure to go well and could be the one to beat under Tom Scudamore.

Our other runner is El Paso Wood, who runs in the 3m2f handicap chase at 3.05pm.  He steps back up in trip having finished runner-up over 2m4f last time.  The winner of the Somerset National last season and fourth in the Midlands National here over 4m2f, the longer distance will prove no obstacle to him.  Whilst 9lbs higher than when last successful, he is still 1lbs lower than when unlucky at Wincanton in February so remains on a feasible mark.  Regular rider Philip Armson takes 5lbs off and he looks to have an each-way chance in a competitive race.

The final One Day International cricket match between England and South Africa gets underway today at Headingley with the series tied at one apiece.  It is no surprise that Ben Stokes decided to call it a day...on Wednesday, the England players' hectic schedule continues as they embark on a T20 series against the South Africans.

The French Grand Prix takes place this afternoon from Paul Ricard and I would love to be watching that.  Much will depend on if the missus has me up a ladder with a paint brush...let's hope for an intervention from the weather!

A pair of cows were out grazing in their field when one turns to the other and says, "Have you heard about that awful mad cow's disease that is going around?"
"Yes," the other cow says.  "Makes me glad that I'm a penguin."
