There is jump race action from Southwell today and although David does not have any engagements there is lots coming up this week with several meetings to look forward to.  There is Worcester on Tuesday evening, Hereford Wednesday evening, Stratford followed by Fontwell on Thursday and Bangor on Friday.  We are also leading up to the big Summer Festival at Newton Abbot next weekend so keep checking back here during the week for plans of all the action.  If you are looking for something to do next weekend a highly recommend a visit to Newton Abbot at is a great two days action with lots of fun for all the family.

I liked the piece in yesterdays Racing Post by Richard Hughes.  He was describing his experiences at some of the racecourses.  He said about Beverley “if you don’t like sheep you are in trouble, Beverley has lots of them!  And the course has got a major draw bias”.  He says he rode a treble at Carlisle 16 years ago and has not been back since!  My favourite comment however was his one about Ripon.  He says the course has more speed humps than London!  He continues to say, so many horses will not let themselves down on it so it makes it the worse track in the country to back a favourite in a maiden but the best place in the country to get one handicapped!  What does he mean?!  I would think that some of the courses will have something to say about his comments but it is a very interesting read!

There was also an article about Barney Curley not being paid out his money by the bookmakers.  I cannot understand this problem with not paying Barney out.  It seems to me that firms registered off shore can make up their own rules.  Most of the firms have paid up but if you do not want to, you don’t have to if you register off shore!  Surely it’s time we stopped these off shore betting firms as it has to be a fiddle of some sort or other than not paying the poor man out!

Manchester United start their defence of their premiership title at West Brom today.  The way they played and beat Manchester City last weekend I think they look a good thing to defend their title once again.  Chelsea also start their campaign today at Stoke.  That will be a hard first game of the season for the blues as Stoke put it about a bit and it is a hard place to get a result.  Its great to have the football back!
