After a scorching few days of beautiful sunshine, the rain has finally arrived.  The skies are decidedly murky and there is plenty of the wet stuff in the forecast for the weekend.  Summer's over I presume?!  There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with a jumps card from Cartmel, flat fixtures from Doncaster, Yarmouth, Newmarket and Chester and all-weather action from Newmarket.  I'm afraid it's a fairly non-descript day for a Friday, with the best of the action coming from Ireland.  The Curragh hosts a competitive card with the Group 2 Curragh Cup over 1m6f the highlight, although it does look something of an O'Brien benefit with Aiden or Joseph responsible for five of the eight runners.

Owing to the dearth of local jumps cards, there are no runners from the Pond House team today, whilst there are no NH fixtures at all tomorrow.  As such, our next runners will come on Sunday when we will be at Cartmel and Uttoxeter.

I see the press are hyping up potential tensions between Frankie Dettori and John Gosden after the Italian was not selected to ride a number of horses for the trainer.  This comes in the wake of a disappointing week at Royal Ascot for the pair.  There is usually no smoke without fire, but the media could also be guilty of stirring things up a bit.  I guess we will find out in time.

Things look finely poised after the first day's play of the final test between England and New Zealand.  The visitors finished the day on 225-5.  England looked to be on top but an unbeaten stand of 102 for the sixth wicket brought New Zealand right back into things.

Jack Draper is the final Brit left in the Eastbourne International tennis after beating Ryan Peniston to secure a place in the semi-finals.  It is the world number 108's first visit to an ATP tour semi.  Let's hope he can go on and reach the final.  One thing is for sure, it can only boost his confidence heading into Wimbledon next week.
